John and I looked for a fun close in hike to take out a few friends and we decided on Buckhorn Mountain, one from a multi-peak day we did last fall. See that trip report here: https://davefaitlemonde.com/2019/10/16/vics-peak-rapid-peak-and-buckhorn-mountain-valley-county-idaho/ See John’s trip report here: http://www.splattski.com/2020/buckhorn/index.html
After passing Boulder Reservoir, we climbed to Boulder Lake. I knew the wind was going to pick up soon so I quickly began shooting reflection images. This is Buckhorn Mountain our destination…..actually, it’s False Buckhorn. The actual peak is behind this mountain and several hundred feet higher.
This is an interesting image as it has the reflection of (False) Buckhorn Mountain, logs, swirls of pollen, and if you look carefully, you can see ice on the lake too. John called the pollen swirls “scum” of which I take exception. He just doesn’t know art when he sees it!
Same image, slightly different angle.
Further down the lake looking back.
Ruby posing for me from slightly earlier in the hike. That is Jughandle Mountain behind her.
After walking around the lake we were soon on the climb and in continuous snow…..and sunshine!
Tom and Susies dog Finn in his first Davefaitlemonde.com appearance! He needs a little training on proper modeling techniques.

Ascending the final ridge before the summit, it was a bit of a knife edge and gave you the heebee jeebies if you looked down!
At the summit, we were looking over towards Green Mountain, a hike we did a couple weeks ago. https://davefaitlemonde.com/2020/06/04/peak-7860-near-green-mountain-payette-national-forest-idaho/ Also, a bonus peek back at Squaretop Peak, the largest one in the background and one of my favorite Idaho mountains! I urge you to take a few minutes and go back and check out these three posts to see why it is one of my favorites! https://davefaitlemonde.com/2019/07/21/square-top-basin-payette-national-forest-first-24-hours/ https://davefaitlemonde.com/2019/07/22/square-top-basin-payette-national-forest-next-24-hours/ https://davefaitlemonde.com/2019/07/23/square-top-basin-payette-national-forest-conclusion/
A man and his dog! “All I need is this dog!…..and this lamp!….and this hiking pole!”
