John, Ruby and I headed out Thursday for a few days in the quiet back country of Idaho to attack several peaks which John has been talking about since our last trip up Square Top in October (Link here.) See John’s trip report here.
Ruby, posing for me! Besides a great mountain dog, she has learned how to pose for the media!
We arrived in our basin after about 4.5 hours of full pack hiking. We quickly set up camp and headed out for our first peak, Slide Peak which is off to the right of this image. Here we are looking down on Square Top Lake. Notice the snow on the lakes right edge.
John, preparing to attack the summit block, just to his right. Square Top Summit is just off in the distance and several hundred feet higher. We will get to this one Saturday morning!
John in his happy place, on the summit of a mountain, in this case, Slide Peak!
The next morning, I was up at 5 am and headed for the saddle above Square Top Lake! What a sunrise! Here are a series of photos showing the sunrise on Square Top which is the high point in this photo.
The next series is me doing selfies, since John and Ruby elected to stay in camp and sleep in, I needed a subject….. so its your’s truly. As my regular blog followers will already know, this is my first effort at published selfies…
Here are some miscellaneous other images from the sunrise shoot. Starting with, Square Top Lake.
The moon over Square Top Basin.
And at last, actual sunrise with selfie!
Stay tuned for the next episode in….. As Square Top Basin Turns!!!!!!
