John and I have had a couple pretty busy days so we decided to head up to a local classic for an overnight backpack. Crystal Lake is a close in favorite but during the peak of the summer, sees a lot of hikers. John, Ruby and I prefer hiking and backpacking where few others go but with the early season we didn’t figure to see many others…… and we didn’t!
It is Morel season around these parts!
Higher up in the basin, we hit the snow.
Crystal Lake had likely only been fully thawed for a couple of days. Check out this post from last year almost exactly the same time: https://davefaitlemonde.com/2020/06/05/crystal-lake-and-clair-mountain-payette-national-forest-idaho/
It was a super warm day so the gentle wind off the snow fields felt great!
Ruby loves laying in the snow and posing for the camera.
More to come soon from Crystal Lake!
