On my last day here is McCall for this year’s winter vacation, I headed just outside of town for a McCall classic, Payette Point. John, Craig, Ruby, and Dakota picked me up and we headed out for this snowshoe hike. Here is a link to a Payette Point blog I did in the Fall 2 years ago, shown without the snow. https://davefaitlemonde.com/2018/10/02/kathy-lake-fail-payette-national-forest/
It was a glorious day so it wasn’t long before I pulled out the camera. John, who was recently back from a week’s long mountain climbing trip to Nevada (see his blog here: http://www.splattski.com/2020/nevada/index.html ), was eager to show off his recently obtained hiking fitness and soon left Craig and I in the dust.
Here Craig is on the final approach to Payette Point which is on his right.
Here is the final push to the summit saddle.
Finally a John sighting, he and the dogs were waiting in the warm sun at the base of the summit rock.
The final 75 feet to the summit is a class IV icy climb. Here, John is making some moves towards the top.
Au revoir McCall! Thank you everyone for the fun winter memories! I’m headed back for the first of my three Spring seasons in Texas.
