Kraków to Szczawnica, Poland (Stage 1 – Backroads)

Scroll down to content

First up today was a bus shuttle out of Kraków.

We meet up with our Backroads guides for the week and a bunch of other Americans.

Meet my steed for the week, I wish Nicole was here to give her a name.

Larry take a few minutes to mentally prepare for the starting pistol to fire and the opening stage.

And off we go, then boom right out of the gate, a photo of the Big American Tuna Boat.

I’m not sure what was going on here locally but a lot of people were dressed like this today. These fine ladies agreed to let me photograph them.

Soon the peloton was scattered across the countryside and I ended up with Harry.

This puppy decided he wanted to join us. He was running along wagging his tail and enjoying the afternoon. He lasted for a good couple of kilometers before he finally turned back.

Harry and I continue on across the beautiful countryside.

I wish this road wasn’t so busy and wide.

In the distance we have some significant mountains which makes me happy.

One can never get tired of looking at Harry ass….. I mean Harry’s ass.

Just ignore those dark clouds, I did!

I threw this image in for Tommy, I know he likes lots of pictures of roads.

After some good hard pedaling, I finally caught Jill at least for the moment.

Some unusual hay stacks or would you call these piles….. they are certainly not bales….

More hay things.

The Danajec River.

Just ignore those building storm clouds…..

Polish Cows in a field.

Bonnie came by so I pulled out my camera and barely captured this image of her. It’s hard to photograph an electron.

The Village of Maniowy I do believe.

After lunch we had a bit of climbing and some amazing views of Lake Czorsztynskie. By the way, despite spending last week climbing big mountains in the Lemhis, my climbing legs felt pretty darn good!

Oh my! This is fun!

After a few kilometers, we crossed into Slovakia for a while.

Trzy Korony is the name of this peak I believe. It is located in Pieniny National Park which is in Poland.

Lots going on in this image!

Larry riding a nice gravel path along the Durajec River.

One final image along the river. It was an amazing 50ish mile ride. A good opening stage. Stay tuned y’all!
