Patrick Butte, Payette National Forest, Idaho

Scroll down to content

Those of you who regularly follow my blog know that I am running behind on my posts.  I’m working hard to catch up and it’s getting close.  After returning from Cold Meadows, John talked me into going out to bag Patrick Butte the next day…..  Patrick Butte is no give-me….. but since John missed out on the Cold Meadows Expedition, I felt bad for him and said yes!  I think he was actually punishing me for going to Cold Meadows without him!  Check out John’s trip report here.

Patrick Butte is the one on the horizon right.  It’s quite prominent and can be seen from many locations throughout the Payette National Forest.  Hard Butte is the one just to it’s left.

Patrick Butte is a solid 14 mile out and back so to help with the distance we rode our mountain bikes about 11 miles of that….. or at least hiked with our mountain bikes a good bit of that distance.  John promised an easy ride, it wasn’t!  Again, I was being punished!  Here is Patrick Butte from a bit closer.  The Salmon River is in the canyon off to the right.

Same shot, wide angle lens.  It was about here that we saw a herd of bison, never seen that before!  Check out John’s trip report for an image.  No need to go Jellystone to see bison!

One of many small lakes in that area.  Hard Butte is behind the trees just off to the left.

Here is Johnny, taking it all in from his happy place.  This image is looking northish.  Riggins is in the canyon just off John’s right shoulder.  Check out all the summit debris.   Obviously some sort of historic structure.
