Headed out with the Idaho Trails Association for a week of work on a section of trails deep in the Frank Church Wilderness. The expedition starts out with a trails and safety meeting at the McCall Airport.
Meeting with Jeff from the ITA, and the Forest Service Folks for a safety and an expedition briefing. Members of our team include (from left to right) Berry, our substitute trip leader and architect with Vandelay Industries in Boise, Dave (standing behind Berry), a bad ass former smoke jumper and true mountain man, Tommy, the mountain goat, Arthur, another bad ass mountain man, and myself (not pictured), expedition photographer and care taker of Cindy Lopper.
Landing at Cold Meadows International Airport. If you look carefully near the end of the video, a deer is standing in the middle of the runway and the pilot decided he better get hard on the brakes just as it ran off.
View of the airport on approach and no, this photo is not distorted, that runway is neither smooth nor straight nor flat!
It was a beautiful morning at Cold Meadows and living up to it’s name, quite chilly for mid August. Probably in the low 30s. It’s quite a feeling when you watch those two planes fly off and you are left with dead silence knowing you are probably a 3 or for day hike from the nearest road….
Down the trail we go! Hi Ho Hi Ho!
Berry and Dave
Here, Arthur is demonstrating proper sawing techniques, something he did throughout the trip.
Tommy
Berry, very much looking the part!
After a long day, Arther kicks back at Camp One in The Middle Meadows.
Stay tuned, much more to come!!!!!
