JP Memorial – Twenty Mile Lakes (Day 4) – Payette National Forest, Idaho

After a wonderful few days mining out the Twenty Mile Lakes Basin and beyond, it was time for some reflections!

Shooting cool early morning scenes while hiking means a foggy lens…..

Tom and I work our way back to civilization and lower elevations.

This image taken lower in the basin looks up Twenty Mile Creek. It reminded my of the next image I took back in September of 2021.

This is one of my favorite images of John and Ruby. It was taken less than 5 months prior to his passing. The view looks down the Twenty Mile Basin while the last one looks up the Twenty Mile Basin. If you check back at the last image you can see the ridge in the distance on which this photograph was taken (see that blog post here. Also notice that it was posted almost exactly 4 years ago.) Although John climbed peaks all over the world, later in life he always came back to these Lick Creek Mountains of which he loved so much. I continue to be grateful for the time we shared together and I strive to make tribute for his memory every year during his birthday week. It was an incredible honor to share this trip with his brother Tom, another soul of which I’m grateful to share adventures! RIP John!
