On Day 4 it is time to make the long trek back to civilization.

We woke up to very smokey conditions. The hard route out will be made that much more difficult with dirty air.

First up this morning, Ridge #1. It will be the first of 3 pretty difficult ridges we will need to clear.

You know I love old snags.

Near the top of the ridge, we say goodbye to Buckhorn Mountain Lake.

After about an hour we take our first break at this sweet little creek.

Ridge #2, some four wheel driving required. We decided to take a different route than the one we came in on, certainly it will be easier.

At the top of Ridge #2 we look down the other side at a 100’ plus cliff. We backed off and tried again.

Tom makes his way up a different route.

At the top of the third ridge, Tom starts whistling tunes from the Sound of Music.

Civilization is near….. in fact, closer than we expected. As we cruised past Boulder Lake we literally saw at least 100 people. It was a Saturday morning so we expect to see sone people. It was an uncomfortable reentry into society after not seeing another sole for 4 days.
