Buckhorn Mountain Lake (Day 2) – Payette National Forest, Idaho

On Day 2 we were up fairly early to get rolling in the shade. This shot looks back over Malony Lake and behind the old snag is the route we dropped into the lake yesterday.

I didn’t notice this yesterday but tucked into a little north side nook is a patch of Winter 2024-25 snow! In September!

After a bit we approached one of the ridges we will need to cross today. Notice the rock outcroppings through the trees? Coming soon, a close up.

Looking back on Buckhorn Mountain, we climbed that a couple weeks ago, check out that here.

We topped out on the ridge and enjoyed the view down Buckhorn Creek. We did not enjoy looking at our potential route….

This ridge is chunky!

After poking around a while we finally found a spot to come off the ridge and continue our journey…. It was definitely spicy with a full pack.

Looking back up to where we came from.

After an ongoing beat down, we finally arrived at our lake.

Buckhorn Mountain Lake is a beauty!

After a little recovery we went to work whipping water.

This part of the Payette National Forest is characterized by rock!

More lake images.

Finally, as the sun sets, Tom spends a little more time exercising his arm and shoulder.
