As Spring in McCall is turning to early summer, I am ticking off the early season day hikes (This one actually didn’t have any ticks!). Snowdon Peak is both a spring hike and also a winter hike. Today, Craig, Dakota, and I were joined by a very special guest, RUBY!

Ruby retired from hiking a couple years ago but she still likes to get out once in a while. She still remembers how to strike a pose for me.

Heading up the mountain we get filtered views of the old reservoir on Lake Fork Creek.

Summit shots across Valley County.

Little Payette Lake. Between this summit and Little Payette Lake is Jigsaw, another early season hike which we will be checking off soon.

Ruby Roo! Talk about a happy girl!

Craig and Dakota.

We dropped down to Lake Fork Creek, had lunch, and then went in search of the old dam site.

This is the old dam which was breeched in 2010 during a heavy June runoff event. It is tough to find information about this dam failure, in fact, when you do a search on the inter web, this page seems contain the most credible information. See it here.

The old control structure is starting to look rickety.

Behind the old dam site is the former reservoir which is slowly returning to forest and meadow. Great hike with amazing company!
