After almost exactly 2 years, I have returned to one of my favorite areas in Western Texas, The Davis Mountains. Check out my previous posts here and here.

Today, I stuck out about 6:00 am on a hike in the dark. There was enough ambient light with a half moon to hike without a headlamp but too much light to shoot proper night time photography. I did take the new iPhone out and gave it a low light test run.

After about an hour, I was in place on the ridge to catch up impending sunrise.

Wildlife!

This doe was nice enough to pose at the exact right location and hold very still…… I named her Ruby.

Predawn progresses and I maneuver behind some random vegetation.

More vegetation.

To the south, the mountains near Alpine, Texas.

Sunrise! Watching the sunrise at different locations around the world is one of my favorite activities and anyone who has shared that experience with me knows what I like to do……. Here comes the sun!

I returned back to camp for breakfast and more coffee then it was off on a daytime hike.

Fall colors in the canyons of the Davis Mountains.

After hiking a while, I peaked over the ridge and found Fort Davis. Not a great photo, it’s very washed out but that is pretty much how it looked to the eye.

After hiking around a bit, this interesting cloud formation appeared.

What can I do with those clouds? Perhaps make a dandelion?

Many of the trails here were built by the CCC about 100 years ago. Also built at that time was this rock lookout building.

One last desert tree.
