Uncle Dave Camp – Hee Lake – Payette National Forest, Idaho (Day 1)

It’s been a while since the last Uncle Dave Camp (see that here), so when Zac contacted me and wanted to go backpacking, I was all over it.

Given it was the weekend of the Fourth of July, I wanted to find a spot which was relatively close in yet free of crowds. Hee Lake is a great choice and also a place I went with Tom two years ago on the same weekend. Check that out here and here. Especially notice the difference in the snow for the same weekend, 2021 was a huge snow year. Above, Zac and I quickly motor our way past Duck Lake on our way to Hee.

As we climbed the ridge, views of Sawtooth Peak come into view.

At the top of the ridge, Hee Lake!

We scrambled down from the ridge and by early afternoon, our base camp was set.

Time to fish!

Zac could not resist throwing a Fourth of July snowball from the snow bank across the lake.

Hee Lake views.

We settled in the for the evening, had a hors d’oeuvre hour then prepared for a couple days of exploration.
