Snowslide Peak – Payette National Forest, Idaho

Scroll down to content

As the snow melts up the Lake Fork Creek Canyon, we can access more and more of the Lick Creek Mountains. Typically we climb Snowslide Peak around Memorial Day Weekend but life activities dictated it occur a week or so later.

It was up to Anne and I to get the job done as everyone else invited decided that the climb was just too hard. Granted, the first 2000 feet of climb is pretty dang hard! Looking down the canyon this climb gives a unique angle on Slick Rock.

At Golden Lake, it was apparent that Anne and I were going to be treated to an amazing day. From here, the climb generally mellows for the next 1000 feet of climb.

Since we are a week or two late this year, the normal snow field cruse has turned into a mine field of punchy snow.

Up on the shoulder of Snowslide Peak, the views start coming in. In the distance, Council Mountain.

Looking north, Maki Lake and Mount Heinous.

Our first glimpse of Snowslide Peak with Sawtooth Peak off to the right.

A goodly time later, Anne sits on top of the summit rock and enjoys the Bluebird Day!

Views looking south from the summit.

Platt Peak!

The snow filled Maki Lake Basin looks like it will be winter for a bit.

This is one of my all time favorite images from 2020 when I shot the Platt Brothers and Ruby from the same spot. Check out that trip report here.

Back down at Golden Lake, Anne and I take a break and have some coffee. I shall return here later this season for more peak bagging, fishing, and a little camping.
