Manatees – Crystal River, Florida

When in Florida, turns out you do Florida things. In this case, go swim with the manatees. When the whiff says its a road trip for my birthday you say “Oh boy! I can’t wait!”

After a goodly drive the day before, we started the day off with a hike.

Palm tree closeup.

Hiking in Florida isn’t like anything I have done anywhere else. Mostly I was looking for critters that might bite me.

As y’all know, I’m not a wildlife photographer but I will make an exception in this case.

The moment of our 3 hour tour had arrived we loaded up the tour boat and headed out into the Crystal River Bay.

Turns out that Crystal River is not called Crystal due to the clarity of the water. We saw a few manatees and this is what they looked like.

After swimming around the bay for a few hours and seeing mostly sand colored blobs at the bottom, our guide apparently shot this image with his GoPro…… or at least he had this image on his computer from a previous trip and sent it to us.
