The next morning we woke up to some frost and moisture in the air.

We started our work day clearing the trail to Meadow of Doubt. Its about a 3 mile trip to Meadow of Doubt and it needed to be cleared so that our re-supply pack team could get in later in the trip.

Annie and I were working together on the cross cut and making our way up the mountain. Here, Annie stops to soak in the views.

As you can see, much of this area has burned in the recent past and is in various levels of recover.

This is the view looking back down at Chamberlain Basin. Our base camp is in the canyon below at the bottom right of the image.

Up near the ridge, the clouds occasional part.

As another wave of moisture moves in, I snap an image and then apply some filter for a more dramatic scene.

After a goodly amount of time working and walking, Annie and I pop out in the Meadow of Doubt. Not pictured here are the flies….. The constant buzz of flies was like water tourcher.

The trail from Meadow of Doubt to Middle Meadow looked like this and was the reason this team was formed. We were now working our way into some very remote country and many of the trails had not been maintained for many years if not decades. Our rapid progress is about to slow to a crawl. Kjeil and I spent some time scouting the half mile trail to Middle Meadow and much of it looked like this…..

We fell back to camp and that evening would formulate our next plan. Originally we were going to open up the trail to Middle Meadow then head up the other direction and open the loop from Dry Meadows to Hyda Point and back to Middle Meadows. In that sinario, we would get our second re-supply at Middle Meadow. However, it was apparent that this was going to take much more work to open the loop and we may never see Middle Meadow again.

That evening back in camp we had a visitor. This is Wes or his trail name was Mega Man. On March 1st he had started near the Mexican Boarder on a cross country trip to the Canadian Boarder. Wes was happy to see people and we were all fascinated by his stories. He spent the night with us and headed off the other direction the next morning. You can check out his instachat here.
