As y’all may recall, I left my van in Arizona back in February for just a spell and took a vacation from my vacation. I planned my return for mid March but while planning the second part of this trip I did not account for the extreme heat wave in the Phoenix area….. a quick change of plans and we are headed north into the higher elevations and somewhat cooler temperatures. On the way, a stop in Winslow Arizona! Turns out a lot of tourists know about this fine place. Parked there on the street is definitely a flat bed Ford which has slowed down.

After doing one of the stupidest tourist things in my life, I arrive at my campground in Homolovi State Park. This is high desert so the temperatures here are in the low 90s as compared to the 105 high in Phoenix.

It was an absolutely beautiful calm day so I took a walk down the road to some Native American Ruins. In the distance, Mount Humphreys, the tallest peak in Arizona and at its base, Flagstaff.

The tarmac changes to single track for access to these ancient ruins. Maybe not so ancient, perhaps 800 years old.

There they are, up on the hill……

After visiting the Maya Ruins a couple weeks ago in Guatemala, I was feeling a bit let down today.

Just off in the distance, the Little Colorado River on which this village set.

Well…… Ok.

Earlier, I had noticed lots of horse pooh, turns out it wasn’t from horses but from wild jack asses.

Speaking of which, Mike and Cam showed up with high hopes of seeing the high heavens!

It was an amazing evening, stay tuned for some eventing photos!
