Exploring the North Lago Peten Itza Coast, Guatemala

Our day today starts out with a short shuttle ride to the top of a hill. It’s another beautiful day in paradise!

Let me introduce y’all to my trusty steed for the trip.

Speaking of trusty, Ivan and Holly, our trip leaders prepare us for the upcoming ride.

And we are off! Nothing like rolling through the countryside on a bicycle to learn about another culture. The sights, sounds, and smells were all unique to Guatemala.

Clipity clop.

Further down the road Larry gets ready to establish the break.

I moved further up the road so I could photograph his ride to the solo win.

A pony!

The adventure didn’t stop when we got off the bike, since the lake level has been rising, many of the docks and shoreline structures are a bit submerged but that is a whole different topic.

After a boat ride back to the hotel, a few of us hiked up to a viewpoint above the lake.

Interesting light.

I took advantage of a hilltop swing to try and captures some images for this year’s Backroads Photo Contest.

Luckily, I had a couple of willing swing models (Helen and Tyson) to help me out.

After a few moments at the top, the hiking crew descends back down to the hotel. A wonderful day enjoyed by all.
