Lucky Peak – Ada County, Idaho

It’s late January and time to migrate south for an epic road trip! First stop is the Boise foothills.

I met up with Tom and his friend Mike and we started our climb near Tom’s Boise house. We wanted to get going early in hope that the red clay starting off this hike would be frozen……it was!

With the early start, we hiked the first bit in the shade, it was frosty and cold.

After a bit we hiked up on a ridge and finally got some sun.

This area recently burned and every bit of vegetation over 2 feet high was just a skeleton.

In the distance, Micron is now turning into its own city.

After climbing a bit we get our first glimpse of the summit.

This valley has been socked in for several weeks with an inversion. Luckily the lid lifted so we have some pretty clear views.

Tom, Mike, and my shadow. Finn opted for a stroll with his mon.

The final approach to Lucky Peak.

Near the top, views of the Trinity Mountains pop over the ridge.

Mike and Tom bag the summit. Tom wanted to climb the tower to get more elevation but he couldn’t get over the fence.

After a little artistic direction I snapped the proper summit shot.

After a couple hours of climbing, this is what you get…..as John called it, “Summit Trash”.

One final view looking southeastish with Lucky Peak Reservoir.
