Rapid River – Idaho County, Idaho

A quick check of my blog and it shows that I haven’t done the Rapid River hike since 2022, time to return. First up a meet up in Meders.

On this very crisp morning, we were hoping that warmer temps would be found in the lower elevations near Riggins. Here in there Meders Valley, cold!

Nope, it is pretty crisp here too and deep down in the canyon we would not be seeing sun for a while.

Rapid River! In the Winter you don’t see much sun, in the Spring you find lots of ticks, and in the Summer it’s Rattle Snakes.

Carl, Tom, Anne, and Coco make their way up the river. All the moss down here makes for an interesting green hue.

Everyone hold still for some slow shutter speeds.

Many times we find some icy conditions along the trail but not this year. Warmer than normal winter temps made for great trail conditions.

After hiking a couple hours we scurried up the canyon wall to find sun and eat some lunch.

In the shade below we had a frosty winter wonderland.

More frost.

The crew patiently waits for me to do some picture takin.

On the way back I try to get shots of the crew in action.

Every time I stoped for photos, the group gets further away.

This is an amazing ribbon of trail deep in this canyon.

Finally, on the mouth of the canyon we get views of Patrick Butte off to the east.
