Sommières, France and Lauret Ride “A”

Well, the forecast today called for mostly showers but as you will see from today’s blog, thanks to Dave’s work yesterday, it cleared off and was the best day of the trip.

Saturday morning is market day in Sommières so we loaded up the volture and headed to one of the coolest towns in this region.

As we parked and walked across the river we ran into this cat. He seemed to own this bridge and merely tolerated us as we passed by.

Oh yeah! Fall colors hanging on in mid November.

Once inside the walled and ancient city, the side streets off the market were quiet and quaint.

This is a big market which winds its way through the city and each square has a pocket of vendors.

Once we had our shopping for dinner and carcoochie finished, it was time to hit the road for an afternoon ride. Notice how warm it turned out? It was shorts and no jacket time.

I always like to take the touristas over to the bread vending machine in the nearby village of Sauteyrargues. We all agreed that every college campus in America needs one of these.

Any followers of Davefaitlemonde know this spot, Our Lady of the Vineyards with a velo tribute.

Cruzing along D107 and the views of Pic St. Loup start getting better and better.

Interesting crop of winter wheat I believe. I will need to consult my agricultural expert, Genessee Joe?

Dave and Jill enjoying the French countryside.

Decending the D17E6 in to Valflaunès.

Along this part of the route we have amazing views of Pic St. Loup so you will need to endure the series of mountain images to follow.

From this angle it looks like a volcano.

Now let’s throw a road into the image!

Here, it looks like a shark’s tooth.

The puffer clouds came out of nowhere but they are nice, right?

Now looking down the Fontanès Valley. It looks like the volcano is erupting.

Okay, enough with Pic St. Loup, you get it, its a prominent and beautiful feature in this region. In this last image of the day, the tree on the ridge caught my eye. It somehow looks out of place.
