Granite Mountain – Payette National Forest, Idaho

After a short drive into winter Anne, Coco and I arrived at the Granite Mountain Trailhead. It is definitely winter in the high country.

It may be winter here but we still have fall colors sprinkled in.

It was a beautiful day with fog in the valleys and bright sunshine in the high country.

Old snags.

Once we hit the ridge on our way up the mountain, we looked down on the Grassy Twin Lakes. Perhaps they should call them the Snowy Twins!

Further up the ridge and looking north, the Salmon River Drainage is fogged in. Mark decided to go camping in the low country while Anne and I headed to the high country….. looks like we made the best choice!

Another ridge view looking north.

Salmon River drainage fog with the Seven Devil Mountains poking out the top.

Granite Mountain Lookout.

Coco enjoys the sun at the top of the mountain.

Now looking east, the Lick Creek Mountains.

Finally, Coco scans the scene for squirrels! She ended up on the penalty leash when her squirrel enthusiasm exceeded Anne’s Coco Risk Tolerance. You can see Coco’s though bubble “ What a buzz kill!”
