Day 5 and it is time to start trekking back to civilization!

We loaded up camp and began our 2 day journey back to the nearest road.

Since we did very little trail work on this 5th day, I took some time to shoot some photograph.

Early morning fall colors.

Our crew climbs out of the Grotto Creek Basin and towards the Boulder Creek Drainage.

Looking down on Grotto Lake.

Brian leads the climb.

A shot near the top of our climb.

Dan and Clay.

At the very top for our day we stop for some snacks and photographs.

Our crew this week. From left to right: Myself, Brian, Clay, Dan, Anne, Jenny, and Carl.

We reached the saddle above Fish Lake and you can see the Fish Lake Airstrip. The back country airplanes are not able to fly out with a full load so our team will need to hike another day down to the Wilderness Gateway on Highway 12.

Carl dropping down into the Boulder Creek Drainage. In all, we will be dropping about 5000 feet to our ride home.

Carl and more wildflowers!

After about 11 long full pack miles we set up camp at The Boulder Creek Horse Camp. Since we were technically a Forest Service Crew, we took advantage of the guard station patio.
