ITA – South Seven Devils (Day 4) – Hells Canyon Wilderness, Idaho

Day Four will be our last full work day and we had several miles of trail to finish before we could call it mission accomplished.

Before and after on a brushy section.

Luckily today, the higher we moved up the trail the less brush we found. We did find this old burn with lots of downed trees, it should keep the ITA in business for years to come.

A classic ITA crew at full steam.

Spike finally gets a chance to stretch his legs.

It was nice to have large sections with no trees or brush but with great views.

Scotty single bucks a roller, nobody should be downhill of this cut.

With one cut we roll this one out of the way and then Scott touches up the tread.

Before and after.

Before, during, and after. We started this cut when the brushing crew catches up then take lunch before the final cuts.

The top part of this trail had little brush and no trees.

We all wanted to get up to the Horse Heaven Trail Junction then work back to our last tree.

Group photo at the Saddle! Bottom row, Nick, Carl, Jenny, Anne and Spike. Top row, Scott, Shelley, myself and Spike again.

Heading back down off the saddle we had great views of Patrick Butte in the distance.

Scotty and I stop to do some rock work.

Finally, ITA crews find a lot of this….. a tree which has been cut off too short. We call these pack bumpers or in this case an ankle bumper. Someone cut it off but way too close to the trail. Scotty makes quick work of this one.
