Our forecast on Day 3 called for thunderstorms so we needed to plan accordingly. After some discussions, we decided to bump our camp up the trail about 2 miles and set up as early as possible. This gave us the option to fall back if needed for cover.

Believe it or not this is not one of those new robotic backpacks with legs, there is actually a person on the other side.

We defiantly have more moisture in the air today!

By about 10am we had our new camp established and felt confident enough in our situation that we could go back to work for a while.

Camp with a view.

Our plan was to lop up the trial and monitor the skies.

Loppty lop, the crew used the leapfrog method through this section.

Views.

At times it felt like the crew was just inching along through the brush…..in reality we were footing along.

By lunch time, we still felt good about our weather situation.

Lunch break!

After lunch, Jenny had renewed energy and had a little dance in her step as she made her way back to the loppers.

We finished up the worst section of trail brush and decided to spend the rest of the afternoon scouting ahead.

The good news, much less brush….. the bad news, things were deteriorating weather wise.

Looking back over the old burn.

At the Horse Heaven Lake Drainage, the crew split. Carl and I wanted to find a spring which showed on the map above the trial. Knowledge is power and provides future options!

We found a mighty fine spring then headed back down. As we made our way back to the trail, Carl stops to take in the view. It was about here that the first big clap of thunder hit. Despite being a mile or more apart, the entire crew knew is was time to head back for cover.

It took about an hour and a half to get back to camp, along the way we enjoyed on and off showers with occasional thunder.

Back in camp, we hunkered under our shelter. The skies opened up and we were dumped on. I managed to snap a photograph between the thunder storm beat downs.
