Warren Mountain – Custer County, Idaho

Today is a transfer day as the weather forecast is calling for snow in these parts this evening. Brian and I decided to stroll up Warren Mountain and tag the top before we head out. Warren Mountain is the treed peak far right.

It was a cool and crisp morning with no signs of the upcoming weather change.

Despite the nice easy stroll up this old road, my legs were tired!

Further up the mountain things were getting spicy steepness and sidehill wise.

After some fairly sketchy sidehilling, we hit this shoot. Photos can in no way show the steepness of this gully.

Suddenly this easy morning stroll turned into a solid beat down. The good news, the elevation gain was fast and the views were amazing.

Summit? NO, just one of many bumps on the ridge. We had hoped the ridge would be a nice easy walk to the actual summit, turned out it was a complex series of rocky points connected by huge chunks.

Finally, after a good long time we reached the top….or at least close enough.

Looking back down towards the Big Lost River Drainage.

Looking over towards the Lemhis. Bell Mountain is the tall peak and Hawley Mountain is the closer in peak on this side of the valley.

Headed back to camp we find this nice patch of flowies.

As we make our way back you can start to see the change in the weather.

Finally, after about 5 hours we finish up our nice easy stroll. Time to pick up camp and move south and west to avoid the bulk of tonight’s snow storm.
