Bear Creek Lake – Challis National Forest, Idaho

After a good hard push the day before, Brian and I were looking for a more “mellow” day. We relocated to this much lusher camp site off Pass Creek Road.

We used this nice quiet lane up the Bear Creek Drainage to start our hike. It was really amazing how peaceful it is here. We later named this road I-15.

The hike up to Bear Creek Lake was much more tame than yesterday’s hike but it was certainly no gimmie. Along the way, we had incredible views of these geological wonders.

Brian takes a moment to ponder which direction he should go in life.

Evidence of uplift.

Making our way further up the basin.

High in the basin it felt like we were in the Dolomites. FYI, I have never been to the Dolomites but I have seen photographs.

I have visited many Idaho Mountain Lakes and this one is near the top beauty wise.

I started wishing that I had brought my fishing pole on this trip.

A beautiful lake on a beautiful day.

Fascinating colors.

After taking a nice break at the lake we decided to climb a little further.

It wasn’t long after we left the lake that our tired legs had enough and we began our return trip to camp.

Brian! Walk over there so I can take your picture!

Lower in the canyon these cockscomb formation were facinating.

Back down on I-15 we get a view of “Mayhem 2” (image left) which is on the schedule for tomorrow.

The forecast here is calling for the worm to turn tomorrow and evidence of that appears in the skies.
