My friend Barb was in town and had requested a “Snow” hike. She is of Norwegian decent, loves winter and snow and she needed some recreational time in the last few moments of Winter 2024-25.

Those who follow this blog know that Snowslide Peak is an annual trek about this time of year. Ironically, the hardest part of the climb is the first hour or so then you hit the first meadow and the snow.

Once at the Golden Lake, Barb goes to work. Barb is an amazing photographer and has mentored me from the beginning of my photographic journey.

Note the ice and ripples on the lake and check the difference a little later in this blog.

Barb and I rarely get a chance to hike together and it was quite refreshing to move at the pace of a fellow photographer. Usually I am chacing my fellow climbers and scrambling to get shots framed properly.

On the second half of our climb we were moving mostly on snow. Here we are looking back on Golden Lake Peak.

This rock outcropping has become a regular stop on this climb.

Ridge walking to the summit.

It’s not until the very end of the climb that one gets sight of the summit.

Barb’s pink (or salmon) pants made for great contrast in this white and blue environment.

Summit! During the climb Barb mentioned that she is really a lake bagger, not a peak bagger but she sure seemed to be enjoying this peak!

Views around the summit on a glorious day!

On our way up, the breeze was creating ripples on the lake, when we returned a couple hours later it was dead calm making for some reflection photographs. Also notice that the ice was receding quite quickly.

I love the Richie Tree on this rock island.
