South Fork Road – Payette National Forest, Idaho

Scroll down to content

Early in the Idaho Spring I sometimes like to come down to the lower elevations of the South Salmon River for some riding and climbing. Since the ITA is running a crew leader college down here, I loaded up the van and settled in for a while.

The South Fork Road is a ribbon of pavement as good as anything you will find, anywhere!

Springtime in Central Idaho!

When you hit the end of the road, you have choices.

To Yellowpine…..

Back to camp…..

or to McCall, although if you choose McCall right now you better take some snowshoes.

One of the best signs ever made. When I was a younger man, I would start near Warm Lake and do the full 32 mile out and back. Now I am perfectly happy just to bite off a chunk of that beat down.

Flowies! More to come from the deep wilderness of Idaho.
