I love this time of year in McCall. As the snow melts back one gets a growing sphere of summer recreational opportunities. Also, its nice to have this convenient bike stand just outside my garage door.

Today’s photography are from a series of activities over the last week or so. This image taken near the airport is one of my favorite scenes of Jug handle Mountain, one I have photographed in one form or another many times. It was taken during a stop on a south valley ride.

I had this bright idea of hiking from my house to Payette Point. A solid stroll for sure and I made it to within a quarter mile of the monolith. I was then turned back by some very punchy snow. I should have carried along the snowshoes.

Next day I was back on the gravel bike exploring some of the local roads. On easy rides I like to stroll up to the snow line on some of the mountain roads to see how the snow is melting back. Lick Creek Road….. I made it about 100 feet past the end of the snow plowed area.

Next up, around the lake to see how it is melting off. Usually, it is Memorial Day before you can get around the lake. As I ride past the end of the normal snow plow turn around, I see that the road crew is opening it up early! My tail is wagging.

The north side of the lake holds the snow the longest yet the road crew has punched through.

Uggh. Within about a mile of joining Warren Wagon Road and completing the route around the lake, I see that they had just cleared this section. Not quite rideable on the gravel bike, I could walk the last section or flip it….. I flipped it but will be back soon!
