Yesterday I noticed that there was a small controlled burn somewhere off to our east…… Over night, the smoke settled in, Yuck!

As I rolled up the canyon to the trail system, I climbed out of the smoke and never saw it again all day.

Interesting fireplace, where is the cabin?

This is the biggest park in Alabama and it is quite big. Besides an extensive trail system it has a golf course, BMX track, fishing lake, beach, and cabins.

This part of the trail had a quick decision to be made. Do you feel lucky? I didn’t.

Another cool steam crossing.

Speianchi takes a break.

Double Oak Lake.

A bench for my bike!

Another hydraulic structure!

At this point I had been rolling for a couple hours and was riding up a trail called Jekyll and Hyde, it was a pretty decent trail, a bit of a grunt climb but not too bad.

Jekyll turned into Hyde and things got hard for a good hour.

Eventually, I made to what I imagine was the Park’s High Point, Speianchi and I took a break and made a toast to John. After the ride I checked List of John and sure enough, that is Double Oak Mountain. Not much of a view though. Just for perspective, the top of this “peak” is 1510 feet while I am camped at about 700. My total elevation for the day was around 2800 feet of climb in 21 miles.
