Scotty Loops at Snowdon – McCall, Idaho

Today we have a special birthday tour for Art lead by non other than the creator of the Scotty Loops. We park near the end of the road and saddle up for some good old fashion snowshoe trekking.

Scotty lives not far away and uses this route for his neighborhood walk. The route had a very good track set in which made for pleasant hiking.

After trekking through the trees for a while we soon turned up Snowdon Peak. Nice switchbacks!

Snowdon Peak was a regular winter route for John and I but never from this direction.

Odie and Coco were having a ball.

Turns out that Scotty found every knob and point to set his route. This is the first of about 10 points. From right to left, Scotty, Birthday Boy Art, Jenny, Nick, and Coco.

As we move up the mountain, here come the views!

Summit!

Back down the other side and things get a little spicy for a bit.

Nothing like walking straight down a mountain with tennis rackets strapped to your feet.

For the next hour or so, we roll up and down ever little knob in this basin.

Like many adventures, I pull the camera out and put it back while the group slowly rolls off in the distance.

This Snowdon Route is way better than John’s route. Sorry buddy!

Scotts frequently treks on these loops makes for easy going but that first trip down must have been interesting.

Coco knows who’s the giver of snacks!

Coco is a recent rescue dog from the local shelter and probably thinks she actually died and went to doggie heaven .

After about 3 miles, we hit the road and were within a short stroll of the cars. It was about here that the birthday boy started getting cranky. We soon took a right turn and spent the next hour bagging more high points.

Art had a birthday party this evening and did not want to be late. Up and down we kept going with the birthday party looming closer and closer. I finally reminded Art that we were the ones going to his party and this was part of it. “GET OFF MY LAWN!!!”
