Snowmagedon 2025! Pensacola, Florida

It all started off like rainbows and unicorns, an extremely rare snow day along the Gulf Coast. Our orange tree was saying WTF!

The snow started about noon and was really quite peaceful.

The swinging chair under the old oak tree looked a little uncomfortable.

It was time to go for a walk. Most folks were smart enough to stay off the roads and the kids were all out of school with a snow day. Along the walk I could hear and see kids enjoying the moment.

Our neighbors were locked down. It seems that in times like this that humanity will loose its mind and it will be every man, woman, and child for themselves!

Others out going for a walk.

I always wondered what it would take for this generation of kids to put down their screens and soak in the real world. The last significant snow here was in 1977 so for these kids it was a once or twice in a lifetime event. Also note the ingenuity of these kids who quickly adapted their boogie boards to sleds and were setting off to find a hill.

We have two cats, Hipper and Prince. Both are indoor cats and Prince is more than happy with that. Hipper however thinks he is a tough outdoor cat and that we are holding back his true potential by keeping him indoors most of the time. Today he was rethinking his entire program of escaping the bonds of indoor life.

Later in the afternoon it was apparent that this fun winter event was a little more serious than first thought.

No sign of let up later in the afternoon.

This is reminding me of the Great Snowpocalypse of 2017 in Boise. That one lasted for about a month. This Florida version will be here for about a week I recon.

Snow in the palm trees.

As the sun sets the snow keeps coming.

Later in the evening it was still coming but starting to let up.

Our neighbor Julie sent us this image. The previous Pensacola record was about 3 inches in 1895.

Remember the old saying? “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”…. well, that may have been true in the past but not for this generation. I see no tracks pulling up to my mailbox.

I woke up this morning and the low temperature was about 18 degrees. The high today will only be about 35 so this snow is not going anywhere.

Good thing we have a few days of supplies, hopefully our toilet paper won’t run out.

One last selfie before bedtime.
