The “Most Unique Saguaro” – McDowell Sonoran Preserve – Scottsdale, Arizona

I’m in the Phoenix Area visiting my son Michael for Thanksgiving and was lucky enough to talk my friend Rich into taking me for a local hike. He gave me several choices and we ultimately picked the hike he call the “Most Unique Saguaro”.

We ran into this sign at the trailhead…… How do you define professional?

I have visited this area in the past and it is truly wonderful.

Like all the deserts of the Southwest, everything here is pokey!

Classic Arizona Desert.

Cactus and Mountains.

Is this the most Unique Saguaro?????? Nope.

Finally after hiking for a bit, Rich said “Look up” and Boom! Definitely unique! After doing a little research, I found that this is called a “Crested Saguaro”. I was not aware of that! Check out more on the Crested Saguaro here.

Finally, Marble Mountain. A wonderful afternoon with my good friend Rich!
