Devil’s Hall – Guadalupe Mountains National Park – Pine Springs, Texas

It was a good early 0-dark thirty start and I get to travel on my favorite roads in all of Texas….. Texas Highway 505 also know as Ranch to Market Road. It was featured in one of my favorite movies “No Country for Old Men”. Like last time I was here, no traffic so I stopped in the middle of the road and shot pre-dawn images. Check out my last visit here.

Texas Highway 505.

West Texas sunrise……. beautiful!!

I arrived early at my next spot and needed to warm the legs up for tomorrow’s climb. A good appetizer will be the Devil’s Hall Trail.

The trail heads out and up a wash towards a slot type canyon.

In Texas, these aren’t draws or canyons, the are “washes”.

A wash is basically a dry draw that flushes when it rains hard.

The Devil’s Hall. I would not want to be here during a thunderstorm.

Did I mention the wind was blowing…… oh yeah!

Beautiful fall colors in the wash.

High peaks above the wash.

Beautiful old snags in the wash. Oh and by the way, I have been on this road trip for approaching 2 weeks….. I really need to wash my laundry.

On my way back to the van, I took a little side trail to get some solid elevation in preperation for tomorrow’s big climb.

Desert trees are cool looking!

This part of Texas is vast and open. It must be experience as photos do not do it justice. Notice the wash at the bottom of the image?
