As happens every last morning for me here at Cold Meadows, I was up super early. I quietly crawled out of my tent about 4:00 am, grabbed my camera, coat, gloves, another coat, and chair then walked into the meadow. I started by simply gazing at the stars for a good long time and then watched the morning slowly transition to dawn.

Again I was missing my tripod and as the light allowed, I pushed the low light limits and image stabilization of my camera to capture these amazing moments.

There is just no way to overstate it, Cold Meadows is cold! Yesterday afternoon we watch the sunset in shorts and tee shirts and this morning we ported every piece of clothing from our packs.

Here is the proverbial fork in the trail.

Yes, that is definitely frost on the pumpkin.

After clearing Cold Meadows Security, we hang out in the waiting area for Sawtooth Aviation Flight 1 from Cold Meadows to McCall.

My favorite part of the morning….. “DE PLANE! DE PLANE!

In an all too quick moment, we went from the cold and dead silence of the Meadows back to civilization. It was an amazing trip with great people. John would have been happy!
