Sawtooth Peak – Payette National Forest, Idaho

Anne, Craig, Dakota and I wanted to continue and work our way up the Lick Creek Mountains and today’s target was Sawtooth Peak. We worked our way up the canyon and looking across the way you can see Pot Peak (Left) and Beaver Dam Peak which Craig, Dakota and I climbed a few weeks ago.

The forecast today called for 100% chance of thunder showers but we pressed on ahead.

When we arrived at Snowslide Lake it was sprinkling but that did not stop Dakota from taking a swim.

Views of nearby mountains over Snowslide Lake.

As we pressed on up to the ridge, the rain was pretty steady but we had not heard thunder so felt pretty good about our climb.

Further up the canyon, we start seeing patches of blue sky!

At the top of the ridge, we had beautiful colors of summer meeting early signs of fall.

From here on up to the summit of Sawtooth Peak, we run the ridge and thunder storm exposure is high. We defiantly kept our eye on the sky behind us.

Just up the ridge near the blue sky is our peak. We should press on!

Another few more minutes up the ridge and this was our view behind…… Gulp, time to turn around. Although the rain does not look threatening, any lighting was going to be bad!

As we backed down the ridge, the skies broke again. Anne and Dakota take a moment to soak in the view of Snowslide Lake (below).

We sat down for lunch and decided to give the weather a minute to settle.

After a full discussion, we decided to head back down the mountain and leave the summit for another day.

As you would expect, the closer we got to the car the better the weather got. It was still a fantastic hike.
