We now rejoin the “Summer of 61” already in progress.

My friends Joe and Leslie where in town and wanted to hike so I rallied a few locals and headed up to Shaw Twin Lakes and Boulder Mountain. A few flat tires later we were on our way.

Joe and Dakota enjoy a moment at the first Shaw Lake.

Craig and Tom take in the view up Upper Shaw Lake.

Upper Shaw Lake with Boulder Mountain in the distance.

I tried shooting Dakota and Dad together on this rock but Dakota was too busy to sit still for even a second.

After consulting with Craig and Tom on the best route up the mountain, we opted for the rock climbing route.

As we made our way up the boulders, lake views abounded.

Making rock moves!

As we approached the ridge, the old dead snags caught my eye. Notice the smoke? Yeah we have a few fires in the region.

More snags framing Jughandle Mountain.

It is starting to feel like autumn in the high county.

At the summit of Boulder Mountain, Craig takes in the view of Anderson Lake just off his left shoulder.

Through the smoke you can just make out Lake Payette.

There is an old lookout on top of Boulder Mountain and the remnants make good benches for lunch.

Back down the ridge we go.

Far below, a hazy Valley County. Good times had by all!
