Nick Lake – Day 2 – Payette National Forest, Idaho

Scroll down to content

Mornings at Nick Lake are magical.

From this camp spot, the sun rises directly over the lake and this time of year it occurs right after my first cup of coffee.

Looks like we have a touch more smoke today from the fires in Southern Oregon.

Our babbling brook enters Nick Lake.

The plan today, visit a couple nearby lakes and do a little fishing. First up, Lower Nick Lake.

After descending down a few hundred feet we arrive at the lower lake and wet our line.

After a bit, we bump over the ridge to Rainbow Lake. I was surprised that this was one of the only images I took of that climb but I suppose it makes sense as it was a 4 wheel drive brush beat down from this point up. John would have been so proud!

Upper Rainbow Lake. Here we had lunch whipped a little water.

Back up and over the ridge we go, Rainbow Lake sits mid image below.

At the top, Sadie enjoys a moment in the snow.

Moments later Dan cracks over the ridge.

Back down at Nick Lake, it is time to relax.

Dan and Sadie spend some time on the relatively bug free “Ruby’s Rock”. Check out Ruby and John doing the same thing a few years ago. Here.

Sadie helps Dan with a fish.

Dan and Sadie in their happy place!
