Anne has been relating the virtues of her backyard hike up Pollock Mountain for some time now and today was the day I needed to check it out. The Plan, meet Mark and her in Meders and tick this one off Dave’s to do list. The trail starts off in a peaceful meandering fashion with extremely helpful directional signs.

Since Mark got voted off the expedition before I even showed up, it was up to Anne and I to bag this on our own.

As we move up the mountain and out of the treed valley below, the views start to open. John and I had done a similar hike back in 2019. We bagged a couple of peaks on the ridge but ran out of gas before reaching Pollock Mountain. Check out that trip report here.

It wasn’t long before we hit snow. We were climbing a south face so certainly we would have snow on the northern aspects.

Another helpful sign…. and by helpful I mean not so helpful.

Indeed, it was still winter on the north faces.

These are the peaks at the Southern Seven Devils.

We worked up the southern side of the ridge to avoid the steepest sections of the snow field.

Finally after several hours of climbing, our objective peeks over the ridge. A careful eye can pick out the summit lookout mid-image.

Anne works ahead kicking in steps while I hang back taking photographs.

Incredible views of the Seven Devil Mountains.

Anne making the summit approach.

Summit views! Shortly after this moment, Anne was nearly voted off the expedition herself as she turned on her cell phone and checked her messages. The good news, Mark messaged and seemed in a much better mood than when she left. Something about finding a lost bag…

A little know fact is that for several years now Anne has been working on a romance novel based in and around this lookout. It will be a best seller I’m sure and it was an honor to do my first accent with the best selling author herself!

Back down the mountain we go!

After traversing the snow field, we opted for the direct route down the face. Good times!
