ITA – Waterfall Trail – Frank Church Wilderness, Idaho (Day 5)

One final sunrise at Base Camp 2. It was time to head back down the mountain.

Mornings are chilly here in the mountains. It was important to have a warm fire and hot coffee to get the day going.

We packed up camp and started heading down the trail. We plan to spend the night at Base Camp 1 where the pack team will meet us tonight and haul our gear out tomorrow.

As you can see, we won’t get far before the brush work starts again. We needed to finish this section of trail which we had skipped over a couple days ago.

Most of the crew took to lopping while Scott and Art headed down ahead of us to cut out a few trees.

We started to catch up with the saw crew when they came across this Ponderosa.

Down low, the brushing was minimal so we were soon all available to help saw.

Succsess!

Time for an expedition group shot. From left to right, Scott, Cody, Tom, me, Tim, Art, and Carl. This trip’s version of the A Team!

As we moved down the mountain, more and different views.

Carl and Cody hiking down below with the Big Creek – Middle Fork Confluence in the background. Hard to tell here but both were flowing considerably higher that three days ago.

We arrived at Base Camp 1 and set up. It was nice to be done with the trail work.

Early evening and the pack team arrived.

After a little shuffling, we found a spot for the pack team. With limited communication out here, it was nice to know that our backpacks and tools would get a ride out and know that we would be traveling light tomorrow.
