Yesterday I was out for my weekly gravel grind with the Blackwater Gravel Grinders. As usual, the pace was hot for me so I was mostly hanging on but luckily Derek shot some photos and generously allowed me to post his pictures, thank you Derek! As I am headed back north soon, this is my last ride for the season with my gravel crew. It has been a wonderful winter down here riding the rolling hills of Northwest Florida. It is really a hidden paradise for the gravely inclined. It was fun watching the seasons change from December when we started to mid April. Yesterday, temperatures were in the 80s and the humidity was high. Obviously it is time to head for the mountains.

“Floridaman Mike” and I chat it up during a rare easy moment along the ride. All of my Idaho friends probably noted that I have been flying the George’s flag all season down here.

Finally, a huge thank you again to Derek! He is The Godfather of Gravel in these parts and for good reason. Derek has scouted all the great spots and hidden gems in the Blackwater State Forest. Every week it is a new, fun, and hard adventure! Derek is a true asset to this community. Thank you and see y’all again in the Fall!
