Brasstown Bald – Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Georgia

Anyone who follows my blog knows that I have been ticking off state high points and you also know why. Brasstown Bald completes my far southeast tour, basically any state touching the Gulf of Mexico and Georgia and South Carolina. Brasstown is by far the highest of them all at 4784 feet. By way of background, I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho which has a listed elevation is 4705 feet. The cold wind on top of Brasstown Bald did remind me a bit of IF now that I think back on it.

I left my camp spot it the deep back woods of Georgia and arrived just after sunrise. One thing about adventuring this time of year, the crowds are minimal.

This trail to the summit seemed pretty tame by my standards but I know even John would have enjoyed it as it lead to a summit!

I was not aware of that….

What a glorious morning!

The cold front that blew threw two days ago brought in some clear air.

Below, you can see the parking lot and just make out the van. Looks like someone else has pulled in.

A close up of the parking lot, it seems they are set up for the crowds.

Helpful!

Also helpful! Note that Clingman Dome, Tennessee’s highest peak is on the far horizon right image…. it’s on the list to be done!
