Chewacla State Park – Auburn, Alabama

Today, I headed out for a mountain bike road trip up in to Alabama and beyond. Well, maybe I should say a road trip to do some mountain biking.

First stop, Chewacla State Park and another CCC project. It is amazing the work that the CCC completed across the country back in the 30s.

I’m going to like this place!

After a comfortable night in the campground, I was up at the crack of dawn to pound out a ride before the mid morning rains.

The park is located near Auburn, Alabama and it became obvious quickly that the park has a partnership with the local Auburn mountain bike club. One thing about mountain bikers is that they have way too much time on their hands. Give them some ground and a green light and you get highly developed trail spaghetti!

I love these images…. it is common on these feature trails that you have an easy line and a technical line. In this case, a bridge with whoops on the left and a flat bridge easy route. So your telling yourself, “Self, I’m feeling more confident, I’m going to try the hard line!” Then you crash and burn! The image on the right shows the sign with emergency information where you can roll over on the ground and snap a picture of the QR code to directly request help.

Downhill trail crosses over cross country trail.

After a goodly uphill grind, a viewpoint.

A rare view. This area is heavily treed so it is tough to find viewpoints.

There are lots of twisty flow trails.

A nice trail running along Moores Mill Creek.

Another cool CCC project I’m assuming, a dam with a waterfall outflow. Good times, its time to move on, more coming soon.
