Snowdon! One of my winter time favorites. Today, Craig, Tom, Anne, Dakota, and Finn met up for the climb. Scotty and Art were no shows. I’m not sure what happened to Art but I think Scotty is avoiding me because he knows that I will be pressing him hard to retire! Work is starting to get in the way of his adventure time! After walking up Lick Creek Road a bit, it was time to strap on the snow shoes and turn off into the woods.

This part of the hike is actually on the old road up Lake Fork Creek Drainage.

Dakota patiently waits while we work our way up past the first ice fall.

Anne breaks over the ridge to some pretty good views. This was Anne’s first climb of Snowdon. She just recently passed the McCall “Locals” test and is now eligible to do some of the local secret hikes. I do note that she is still on double secret probation so she needs to continue and mind her “p’s” and “q’s”!

More ice falls.

As we worked our way to the South side of the mountain the snow started to get pretty thin.

Finally we took off the snowshoes. Pretty rare this time of year have this much bare ground.

Close to the summit, the snow was super stable and we were able to posthole our way without snowshoes.

Summit!

This view I have shot many times.

Tom insisted on wearing the snowshoes on the way down. Apparently his crampons were a little too sharp and he needed to grind them down a bit.

Notice Craig and Anne are carrying their snowshoes. I actually made the entire decent without snowshoes. It was another amazing day in Idaho with amazing people!
