After doing a brisk road ride with the ride group from the local bike shop, I was looking for some dirt! The local mountain bike organization PORC (Pensacola Off Road Cyclists) were having a Toys for Tots fund raiser so I decided to check that out. WOW! Look mom! My people!
After finding and introducing myself to Anthony who appears to be the ring leader in these parts, I headed out on the trail system noodling along by myself. It wasn’t long before this group of doggs came rolling by. I decided to lift my game and tag on the back. When you are new to an area, you are looking to make some friends. Turns out that these guys are all from Mobile and over just for today’s event. In the back was Jason who is one of the mechanics from Ride More. Jason had worked me over on the road ride yesterday but was super gracious about it. Riding with a bike mechanic named Jason….. tell me if you have heard that one before?
Turns out there are about 20 miles of mountain bike specific trails located in this area. My tail was wagging!
I spent over an hour hanging on to the back of this group, occasional stoping to shoot the shit. Like mountain bikers I have met all over the world, these guys were super cool and just fun to hang with.
Yes, I think that I will be happy here cycling wise! Next time I will charge my derailleur battery as my single speed Speianchi was a a challenge at time on the rolling hills.
