Today’s tour takes us up north a bit to the town of Sommieres which has been voted the number one “Cute Village” in previous Davefaitlemonde tours of the Lauret area.

Along the way, we made our obligatory stop at Our Lady of the Vineyard to pay respects.

A few more turns of the pedals and we are riding through the narrow streets of Sommieres.

It was lunch time so we grabbed some sandwiches at the local boulangerie (which turned out to be possibly the best lunch of the trip) then had lunch along the River Vidourie. You can just make out Larry and Jill in the bottom left corner.

Same river and bridge with a few filters thrown in.

After lunch, I took the crew over to the rail to trail for a view of more French cycling infrastructure and in true French fashion, the trail which used to be one direction into Nimes now went out the other direction towards Quissac. We decided to call a tour audible and take the new trail!

Right around the first corner, a tunnel!

That was cool!!!

The rail trail ended about 10 kilometers in the countryside but dumped us out onto some very cool country roads. It seems obvious now that they are working to connect the Sommieres trail with the Quissac trail. Hopefully it will be done on my next visit as that will make an incredible loop!!!!

Now it was time to roll back along the farm roads which pass through valley vineyards.

One last photo of the day as the sun angle drops during the late afternoon. Sommieres never disappoints!
