Those that follow this blog probably know that I enjoy the Texas State Park system. These parks are clean, safe, generally interesting and spread all over the state. This particular park can best be described as “manicured!” Yes, the gravel is very neatly raked, like a golf sand trap.

A quick setup of camp and I headed out for a hike. Keep in mind that I am in central Texas now and it is hot and humid.

This CCC tower appears to be the highlight of the park and as far as I can tell, offers the only views of the countryside.

Why the interesting name Mother Neff State Par? Well, Mother Neff was the mother of a past Texas State Governor and she donated the land to the State of Texas and created its first ever state park.

You might think these are fall colors but most of the state of Texas has been in a heat wave this summer and the vegetation in these parts are under drought stress.

Camping in the south requires air conditioning so it’s time to plug in!
