Platt Peak – Payette National Forest, Idaho

I have had August 23rd on my radar for a while, I knew that is was the date of John’s first ascent of Platt Peak, 15 years ago. Since I will be unable to climb it on his birthday, I knew that this might be a good alternative date. Well, almost. I was busy on the 23rd so how about 15 years ago and one day! Check out his trip report from that day here.

As all the invited guests slowly dropped out for one reason or another, it came down to Anne and I to get the job done. Anne had never been up Platt Peak so her mind was about to be blown away! After a goodly little grunt, we arrived at Golden Lake.

Later on the ridge, views abounded and this old snag gets photographed again.

Anne soaks in the view as I played NTP.

On the summit, it was an absolutely amazing day so Anne and I sat for a good long time enjoying the moment as I told about 10 John stories and then shed a few tears.

As I scanned around the horizon, it seemed I had a John story for every peak. A quick call to John’s wife Julie and the visit was complete.

We decided to drop back to the lake for a little fishing then we made the steep drop back to the car. A fine day!
