ITA – Total Immersion – Resupply Day!!!! – Frank Church Wilderness, Idaho

Our Total Immersion Trip Squad had now been out for exactly a week, the actual date for today was July 22nd. It was a day off again for the crew but more importantly, it was time for our first re-supply. Backpacking with three weeks of food and other essentials would be very difficult so we had all pulled together small bags with our second week’s food and arranged for it to be packed in by horse and mule.

Using satellite communication devices we had a general idea of when Mel and Marge would arrive at our base camp so a few of us scurried up the hill out of camp to greet the re-supply team.

Marge (in front) and Mel had ridden for the last day and a half to reach our camp. Mel is the Executive Secratary for the ITA and a very experience packer. Not only did she bring in our individual food re-supplies but also a couple of treats.

After greeting Mel and Marge, we scurried back to camp slightly ahead of the pack team and let the others know that Mel-na-clause and her helper Marge were on the way along with 4 rein-horses (no sled). Everyone was excited to open their pack and to visit with some new people.

A couple minutes later the pack team was in the Meadow of Doubt.

Mel unloaded the saddle bags and passed out the treats like a mall Santa! A green cooler!!!!! What could that be???

Everyone had their own method of re-supply. In this case it was vacuum sealed bags.

After an hour or so of opening our re-supply presents and giving Mel and Marge the scoop on the trail work, they prepped the stock and said their goodbyes.

But not before a group photo!

With their bags much lighter now, Mel and Marge headed back out the 1 and a half day trip to the trailhead. It is about 30 trail miles to the trailhead where they started then another 5 hour drive back to the nearest town of any size. It was a big ask to have these supplies brought in and we were deeply appreciative!!!

Meanwhile back in camp, our day off continued as we sorted through our new supplies for the best snacks and goodies then kicked back and prepared for another work week.
